Colloquium Lecture - Professor Utz von Wagner , 29.11.2018

Professor Utz von Wagner from Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, will deliver a lecture in English "Nonlinear Oscillations in Mechanical and Mechatronic Systems: Set-ups, Methods, Phenomena and Technical Examples", 29.11.2018

For linear oscillations of mechanical or mechatronic systems, there are well developed and often applied methods and well-known phenomena. On the other hand, reality is nonlinear and differences compared to linear oscillations may be that large, that nonlinear oscillations are a separate field of studies in Mechanics. Nonlinear oscillations of mechanical and mechatronic systems exhibit several new phenomena compared to linear oscillations. Examples are the existence of multiple solutions with dependence on initial conditions, multi-frequent solutions in case of mono-frequent excitation or chaos. One typical academic nonlinear oscillator is the Duffing oscillator. This lecture introduces to basics of nonlinear oscillations of mechanical and mechatronic systems including mathematical methods and demonstrates consequences in applications from the research fields of the authors as energy harvesting or brake vibrations.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2018, at 4:15 p.m. in Room 134 of the Main Building of the Warsaw University of Technology.
