Symposium "Recognition and Creation in Science and Technology",13-15.04.2018, Sterdyń

As part of the 10th anniversary of the Centre for Advanced Studies, a symposium entitled "Recognition and Creation in Science and Technology" was held on 13-15 April 2018 in the Palace of Ossoliński in Sterdyń.

Excellent guests, both eminent scientists and associates of the Centre and a special guest, Professor Ian Stewart from the University of Warwick, UK, were invited to give the lectures:

  • Prof. Ian Stewart, University of Warwick, Great Britain, “The Science of Discworld”
  • Prof. Michael Giersig, Faculty of Physics, Freie Universitat Berlin, "Geometry - and Topology - Controled Nanoarchitectures"
  • Prof. Marek Demiański, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, "Gravitational waves - sometimes dreams come true"
  • Prof. Małgorzata Lewandowska, Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, „Ultrafine grained materials - perspectives for transport, energy and bioengineering applications”
  • Prof. Marek Trippenbach, Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, "Broken Symmetry in Physics"
  • Prof. Jan Słyk, Faculty of Architecture, Warsaw University of Technology, "Architecture of tomorrow: form, medium, contents"
  • Prof. Wojciech Domitrz, Faculty of Mathematics and Information Science, Warsaw University of Technology, "The Gauss-Bonnet Theorem - from Local to Global..."
  • Prof. Tomasz Sosnowski, Faculty of Chemical and Process Engineering, Warsaw University of Technology, "Science and engineering of inhalation"

The remaining participants were: Prof. Stanisław Janeczko, Prof. Piotr Przybyłowicz, Prof. Mirosław Karpierz, Prof. Franciszek Krok, Prof. Piotr Wolański, Prof. Maciej Sypek, Prof. Zbigniew Brzózka, Dr. Leszek Mellibruda, Prof. Marek Kuś, Prof. Kazimierz Stępień, Prof. Ewa Bartnik, Prof. Leszek Adamowicz, Dr. Barbara Roszkowska, MA Hassan Babiker, Marcin Zubilewicz and the symposium staff: Ilona Sadowska- the event coordinator, Jowita Krakowiecka and Małgorzata Zielińska.

During the meeting, many panel discussions were organized, which were aimed at exchanging opinions and results of scientific research from many different fields of science, with the assumption of interdisciplinary approach to topics and issues, which is a part of the basic mission of the Centre. In this unusual place, there was created an opportunity to meet outstanding professors, who could share their scientific achievements and establish cooperation.

The guests were presented with a publication entitled 'People, thoughts, inspirations and ideas', which summarizes the long-term activity of the Centre, initiated, conducted and coordinated by the Director of the Centre, Prof. Stanisław Janeczko. The book is a compendium of knowledge and information about the numerous lectures, lectures, conferences, workshops and meetings held so far and about the professors visiting the Centre. The collected material proves a great variety of activities, people and ideas gathered within one institution - the Centre for Advanced Studies. It also testifies to the high involvement of the Centre's employees, chaired by Prof. S. Janeczko, in the organisation and performing the tasks that led to the effective results of the cooperation of outstanding personalities from the world of science for the benefit of the Centre and the entire academic community of the Warsaw University of Technology. For researchers, this publication is a valuable reference source for the scientific fields of interests of individuals and research groups.
